About the tool
The SWOT analysis is a framework for identifying change drivers to support strategic planning of businesses.
The framework is applicable in the context of Circular Economy business models to identify change drivers and other factors that influence the development of Circular Economy business models.
To facilitate the process, it is suggested to use the Circular Strategies Scanner and the Circular Economy Trend Cards. The Circular Strategies Scanner can be used to map strengths and weaknesses in the current business model. The Circular Economy Trend Cards can be used to map opportunities and threats that can influence the development of Circular Economy business models.
How to apply the tool?
Step 1
Print out a copy of the SWOT matrix.
Step 2
Identify strengths and weaknesses of the existing business models using and add them to the matrix. Insights from the Circular Strategies Scanner can be used.
Step 3
Analyse future opportunities and threats using the Circular Economy Trend Cards add them to the matrix.
Step 4
Identify which aspects are most critical based on the SWOT analysis (and the Circular Strategies Scanner) and highlight these with red stickers.
When to apply the tool?
The SWOT analysis should be used in the sense stage, where you identify opportunities and translate them into future potential business model ideas.
