Gabriel’s focus on the complete life cycles of products and services has resulted in solutions that benefit both users and the environment.
Guided by Cradle-to-Cradle thinking, where ‘waste = food’, Denmark-based Gabriel was the first company in the upholstery fabric industry to significantly improve its environmental performance. Improvements covered a wide range of processes – from eliminating heavy metals in dyeing processes to the use of environmental management systems. As a result, the company has developed the largest selection of eco-labelled upholstery fabrics available: of the company’s fabrics, 52% carry the EU Ecolabel, 95% the Oeko-Tex label and 14% are Cradle-to-Cradle certified. Examples of these are the Elevation and Repetto ranges that are made from 100% recycled post-consumer polyester. Another example is the Gaja range, which is made of 100% wool. According to the company, the turnover from its new sustainable product lines has been increasing significantly.
